What Went Down - Will Come Up

Our nervous system is always asking things like, “Am I safe?”

Often this line of questioning begins when we’re wicked young - even pre-verbal. As children, we scan our environment and look around for someone to support, protect and provide nurturing and nourishment for us and for lots of kids in many instances, we didn’t find it.

So it’s not so surprising that as an adult, you may not feel particularly safe or connected all the time and this can show up in our relationships.

A lot of us are trying to navigate this whole being human experience as a healthy, kind, mature, emotionally intelligent adult, but we didn't always have a great beginning, or we maybe didn't have access to the tools, support, resources or good role models that would help us to show up a little bit differently.

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about how that trauma that happened in our early lives can run on repeat well into adulthood, if we don’t inquire about it, unshame it, and do our best to heal it.

What went down — will come up, and sometimes it will arrive as things like anxiety, depression; and other habits, patterns or addictions that we may need outside support with.

So be kind to yourself and take this episode as my invitation to slow down and start to pay attention to how things and you are showing up.

Notice when unresolved stuff from your childhood is trying to get your attention and make this kind of internal work a priority, because this is one of the ways we can operate from a place of love and safety and wholeness, instead of fear.
